In this lesson, you have learned that:
The four main boat directions are port (left), starboard (right), forward (front), and aft (rear).
The three main parts of a boat are the bow (front), stern (rear) and hull (main body).
Boats are made from GRP (glass reinforced plastic, usually known as fiberglass), aluminum, wood, steel and ferrocement, as well as other composite materials.
The four main drive systems are outboard, inboard, inboard/outboard (stern drive), and jet drive.
Beam is the width of a boat.
Draft is the amount of water required to float a boat and this is also the length from the waterline to the deepest submerged part of the boat.
Ocean-going boats have larger keels.
An outboard motor consists of a power head (the engine), the intermediate housing (the drive shaft) and the lower unit (gear, housing and propeller).
Wood, steel and ferrocement boats are not eligible for American Modern insurance.
